Shakti Shanti was founded in South Africa over 12 years ago by Maria Taylor, a yoga teacher and designer, in response to a need to find workout clothes which combine beautiful fabrics with functional design, that is equally at home in a gym class or in day to day life. Maria still heads the business in South Africa but now also leads on design globally after teaming up with UK based retailers, Nigel and Kate Wood, in spring 2017 to take the brand global.

Shakti Shanti, meaning ‘power’ and ‘peace’, pairs high quality, natural materials with beautiful design. At Shakti Shanti we believe that Yoga is completely inclusive. We strive to stay true to Yogic principles, with respect for all beings and being in tune with nature by offering eco-friendly products and supporting the local community in South Africa where our products are born.

In a world of fast fashion, we want to be different… With every piece of clothing we produce, we can trace them back to the hands that made them.

Our ethical yoga clothes and leisurewear is still made in Cape Town, where we are committed to supporting the local community. Many of the talented tradesmen that produce our clothes have been with us since the very beginning, 12 years ago.

At our UK offices, we have a dedicated local team who ensure all of our products are beautifully packaged and delivered to you.

We use the highest quality natural fibres, which are eco-friendly and feel luxurious against the skin. Our styles, fabrics and prints are unique, which can be traced right back to the hands that made them.  The majority of our Active Wear is made from 90% durable & supportive cotton - the 10% stretch allows the garment to recover perfectly after bending and stretching.
